Marco Iannaccone / Scarlet Lovejoy

Zeitgeist

"Zeitgeist" Spirit of Time is the new photographic project by artist Marco Iannaccone/Scarlet Lovejoy, who has always given us, with his shots, strong sensations, intense emotions and food for thought.

This is an original project with a strong emotional impact. The casts of Pompeii, taken after the historic and dramatic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, represented a documentation of life during that historical period. Therefore, the artist wanted to imagine and represent, with his photographs, today's society if it were suddenly struck by another catastrophic eruption; a society "in disarray," with the crumbling and loss of values and ideals. Thus, through the evocative and dramatic power of his photographs, he addresses, time after time, all the problems and existential drift of our contemporary world: the housewife locked in her solitude and attempting suicide, the mania for appearing more than wanting to be, the increasingly alarming and widespread drug problem, the paroxysmal and worrying addiction to smartphones, PCs, and technology in general, the lack of education about food, the growing racist and fascist attitudes of our current society, the greed and hypocrisy of the church in its desperate attempt to defend its privileges. Some of these shots, by contrast, seek to instill optimism and positivity: the transsexual with the open window, opening toward a hopefully better life prospect, and the homosexual lovers embracing each other in a tender embrace before the catastrophe. The evocative power and the dramatic and realistic force of these photographic images have the power to touch our hearts and minds, prompting careful and sincere reflection.
